How to choose the right size leather belt?

Follow the guide: 3 methods

A belt size corresponds to the distance between the end of the buckle and the center hole. Why the center hole? It makes the look more aesthetically pleasing when the buckle is fastened, and it provides an ideal adjustment range if you wear both high-waisted and low-waisted trousers (see photo below).

Method 1: I measure my old belt.

The simplest and most reliable method:

  • Take a belt that is worn regularly.
  • Spread it out flat on a table.
  • Measure the distance between the beginning of the loop and the most used hole (the one that is slightly marked by wear).
  • The measurement obtained in inches is the exact size to order (e.g., 34 in).

Method 2: Rely on US pant/jean size.

This is the ideal method if you are buying a gift in secret. Just look at the label of a pair of jeans or pants from an American brand that he or she wears regularly. Look for the number next to the letter W (for Waist).

  • The US magic formula: US jean size (W) + 2
  • In short: Take the US size, simply add 2 to that number, and you get the ideal American belt size.

Example: For jeans in size W32, the belt size to choose is 34. For jeans in size W31, the belt size would be 33. In this case, we recommend going up a size, which would be 34.

Be careful with high-waisted pants; it may not be necessary to add 2 inches.

Method 3: Measure your waist circumference.

Run a measuring tape through the belt loops of the pants.

The measurement obtained corresponds to your belt size.
